Biomass Back Boilers

There are a small number of biomass (or multi-fuel) stoves on the market which can be fitted with an optional back boiler. The smallest stoves (such as the Charnwood Country 4, Aarrow TF30 or Clearview Pioneer/Vision) will often only provide partial hot water (which may need to be backed up with an electric immersion heater and/or a solar water heating system) and may also have the ability to feed a couple of radiators. Larger stoves, including the Charnwood Country 14b/15b, the Dunsley Yorkshire, Aarrow TF90 and the Clearview 650/750, are designed to provide a restricted heat output into the room in which they are located, but to provide a much greater heat supply to the back boiler. These will typically provide around 4kW of heat to the room, with 11kW to the back boiler, allowing a full central heating system of up to 10 radiators to be fed as well as meeting normal hot water needs. Some models are designed to operate from either logs or other solid fuels, such as anthracite. In addition to the four brands listed here, there are other models becoming available on the UK market, generally imported from continental Europe.
